The Comment Funnel That Actually Fires

77% of the biggest posts we studied end the same way. Comment a word, get a link. The setup that survives link throttling, and the traps that DM the wrong people.

We scored 422 posts from seven creators. Seventy-seven percent of the biggest ones end with the same sentence. Comment a word and I'll send it. The winners pulled thirty to fifty thousand comments off that one line.

We run this on my own account, and the first version taught me every trap the hard way. A link in the first message that got throttled into silence. A button that dead-ended for months because nothing was listening for it. Typo matching that fired DMs at people who never asked for anything.

This is the setup that actually works now. Two steps, no link in the first message, exact-match keywords only, and a test with a second account before it ever goes live.

The three levels

Level 1 · Manual

Reply to every comment by hand with the link. Works for the first fifty. Then you miss three hundred people and the algorithm forgets you exist.

Level 2 · AI + connectors

Connect your DM tool, configure the two-step funnel from the skill, test it with a second account, and activate. Every comment becomes a delivered lead automatically.

Level 3 · Agents on schedule

Every post gets its own keyword and deliverable from the content board, the funnel metrics roll into your weekly brief, and the follow-up conversation is drafted for you to approve.

Connectors for this guide: ManyChat or Zernio via their API/connector · Composio to bridge the delivered link into your CRM · the deliverable itself lives on a page like this one

The free skill

It designs the deliverable and keyword, configures the two-step DM that avoids link throttling, sets the exact-match rules, runs the false-positive checklist, and defines the weekly funnel report from comments to deliveries.

How to use it: copy the whole thing, paste it into Claude (or save it as a skill file if you use Claude Code), and say “set up comment to DM”. It walks you through the rest. Works with any AI that can read your data.

# The Comment-Keyword Funnel

Across 422 posts from seven creators, 77% of the top over-performers ended the same way:
"Comment [WORD] and I'll send it." The winners pulled 30,000–52,000 comments. The comment
is the conversion — it trains the algorithm, it opens a DM thread you own, and it turns a
view into a lead in one tap. This skill installs it properly.

## Before you start (connector-first)

You need a DM automation tool connected to the Instagram account: ManyChat, Zernio, or
similar — either through its own connector/API or via a connector hub like Composio. The
skill configures; the human activates. Never turn on a customer-facing automation
yourself.

## Step 1: Design the offer behind the word

The keyword only works if the thing behind it is real and instant. Define:
- **The deliverable:** a guide, a skill file, a template, a link. Must exist before the
post goes up. "Coming soon" kills trust.
- **The word:** one word, unambiguous, thematically obvious (WEBSITE for a website prompt,
AUDIT for an audit skill). Avoid words that appear in normal comments ("yes", "love",
"this") — they cause false fires.
- **The ask in the caption:** the exact sentence, e.g. `Comment "AUDIT" and I'll send you
the skill.` Put it in the spoken video too — people act on what they hear.

## Step 2: The two-step DM (the pattern that survives throttling)

Instagram throttles DMs that lead with a link to unknown users. The pattern that works:

1. **Message 1 (on comment):** a short human line + a **button** — no link.
"Here's the audit skill 👇" [Send it to me]
2. **The tap echoes the button text back into the thread** as an inbound message.
3. **Message 2 (triggered by that exact text):** the link, plus one line on what to do
with it. A bare URL renders as a rich preview card — better than fancy formatting.

Rules that bite:
- Button labels are short (about 20 characters max). The trigger must match the label
exactly — one character off and message 2 never fires.
- Unique button label per funnel. Two funnels sharing "Send it to me" means one tap
  fires both.
- Also auto-reply publicly to the comment ("sent ✉️") — public replies compound reach.

## Step 3: The follow gate (optional, use deliberately)

Most tools can require a follow before message 2. It grows followers but adds a step and
some drop-off. Recommend it for lead magnets aimed at growth; skip it when the goal is
maximum deliveries (e.g. a launch).

## Step 4: The false-positive traps

Before activating, check every one of these — each has fired DMs at the wrong people in
production:
- **Match only in post comments, not in DMs.** Someone typing the word in an existing
  conversation shouldn't re-trigger the funnel.
- **Exact match on, typo tolerance off.** Fuzzy matching turns "audio" into "AUDIT".
- **One keyword per post.** Reusing the same word across posts works; multiple words on
one post confuses both people and the automation.
- **Test with a second account** before the post goes live: comment, tap, receive. Then
read the sent message as a stranger would.

## Step 5: Measure the funnel, not the post

Report weekly: comments → DMs sent → button taps → link deliveries → whatever comes next
(opt-in, booking). The drop between comments and taps is your message-1 copy. The drop
after the link is the landing page. Fix the biggest gap, not the loudest one.

## Step 6: Keep it human

The DM is a conversation opener, not a vending machine. One warm line, one clear
deliverable, and a real reply when they answer. The creators winning with this don't
automate the relationship — they automate the handoff.
